An Evening with Jimmy Fallon

I hope you all had a fun weekend!  Saturday night I had a great time at the Jimmy Fallon show.  He performed in a Northeastern sweatshirt to a sold out Matthews Arena.  He did everything from bringing students on stage to performing his famous Barry Gibbs impersonation, and he didn’t stop there.   Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler and Robin Williams were all targets of Fallon’s impersonations as they were all comedians that had previously performed at Matthews.  Known for his song parodies, he also made sure to bring his guitar on stage and sing about conserving energy using songs by Green Day, Justin Timberlake and more.  The show was a great success and I would like to thank SGA and CUP for all their hard work.

Today is Labyrinth Day, the start of Spiritual Wellness Week and everyone should take advantage of all the great events that the Spiritual Life Center is putting on.  From 9:00 am to 6:00 pm everyone is invited to experience a form of walking meditation.  Find time in your busy schedule to find peace and centeredness in the middle of your day without having to sit down.

Our office donated t-shirts to all the kindergarteners!

Parents Weekend

Today Alcohol Week wraps up with another great event.  The Information Fair will take place from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Centennial Quad.  Be sure to stop by to see some live demonstrations, try out beer goggles, and enter to win great prizes!

Parents Weekend starts today!  There are a lot of great events around campus for you and your parents to do and I hope you all take advantage of everything.  Tomorrow is the family fun barbecue in Centennial Commons from 11:30 to 1:00 pm.  Join RSA and Student Affairs before the football game for a game of Family Feud and a lot of prizes.  Saturday night Jimmy Fallon is coming to Matthews Arena.  It’s general admission so I suggest you get there early, doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 8:00 pm.

Date Auction Tonight

Tonight is the Zero Proof Date Auction, another great event for Alcohol Week.  Win exciting dates with groups of students and donate to a wonderful cause.  Sponsored by Delta Zeta and Pi Kappa Alpha all the proceeds will go towards STEP Inc., whose mission is to provide free recovery services for anyone battling addiction.  The auction will take place in afterHOURS and will be from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.  This is always a lot of fun for everyone including the people being auctioned off!

Today is also the start of Sigma Sigma Sigma’s Teeter Totter-A-Thon taking place in Krentzman Quad.  Beginning at noon today the sisters of Sigma will be teeter-tottering for 48 hours non-stop.  All the proceeds will benefit their national philanthropy, Sigma Serves Children.  If you would like to donate you can stop by Krentzman or pay through paypal.

Attention Artists, Creative People, and Anyone That Wants to Help!

Thanks to everyone that went to the Beer and Food Pairing last night!  The event was a success and all the proceeds went to Fenway Health.  Tonight Alcohol Week continues with Alcohol, Parties, and the Law sponsored by the Student Activities Fee and Kappa Sigma.  Attorney CL Lindsay explains your rights and responsibilities in hosting and attending parties.  The event starts at 7:00 pm in the West Addition of the Curry Student Center.  C.L. Lindsay is always entertaining so this is something you don’t want to miss!

Homecoming is right around the corner and everyone in the Student Affairs office is very excited because we will be participating in the Husky Decorating competition.  I would like to invite anyone who is creative, artistic, or has an especially good idea for our Husky to please contact me, because we could use all the help we can get and I would love to get some students involved.  If you are interested you can leave a comment on the blog or contact me through my facebook (Ed Klotzbier).  I can’t wait to hear all of your ideas!

NU Service Day

Saturday, October 17^th was NU Service Day and we had a great turnout!  Students from different organizations came out and helped various communities in our neighborhood.  Everyone was divided into groups and then sent to different locations that included Mission Hill, Curley School, and St. Amborse Family Inn.  Everyone worked very hard and made this year’s Service Day a successful one!

Alcohol Week continues today with the 21+ Beer and Food Pairing.  The event takes place in the CSC Ballroom from 6:30-8:30 pm and is sponsored by OPEN and Student Affairs and coordinated by Sigma Phi Epsilon.  You will be able to sample great food and a variety of beers and learn how to pair them together.  Tickets are available in my office, 104 Ell, and are $5 each.  A government issued ID is required for purchase and entry.  I hope to see you all there!

Alcohol Week Begins

I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the hockey game on Friday.  We are off to a great start!  In a sold out game at Matthews Arena, the Huskies beat Bentley University 3-2.  Northeastern also set a record in attendance at the newly renovated Matthews with 2,724 students attending the game.  Don’t forget Friday, October 23^rd, Northeastern will play the University of New Hampshire and it will be our first televised game of the season.  Tune in at 7:00 pm on NESN to catch all the action at the Whittemore Center.  Go Huskies!

 Today is the first day of Alcohol Week  and OPEN is sponsoring  a lot of great activities.  Everyone can attend the Information Fair today from 11:00-2:00 pm in the Library Quad.  There will be live demonstrations, beer goggle events, giveaways, and prizes.

Recycled Percussion is playing tomorrow night at 9:00 pm in Blackman Auditorium.  You can still get tickets at the Blackman Box Office, so get yours today before they sell out!

Turtle Tug Tomorrow!

Happy Friday everyone!  Tomorrow, October 17^th, is Delta Zeta’s annual Turtle Tug .  The event takes place in Centennial Quad from 12:30-3:00 pm.  Teams of five compete against each other in a game of tug of war and the losers eventually falling into a pool of cool whip.  It’s not too late to sign up your team, just visit their table in curry student center and donate $5 per person.  All proceeds go to the Painted Turtle Camp that was founded by Paul Newman and prizes will be given out to the most spirited and tournament winner.  Even if you don’t have a team go out and support fraternity/sorority life anyway!

 
Don’t forget that next weekend is Parents Weekend!  I’m looking forward to meeting all of your parents at the Family Fun Barbecue.  There will be food, games and prizes, so wear red and black and join RSA and Student Affairs for a version of Family Feud.  The barbecue is a kickoff to an afternoon of NU Football against Towson University, hope to see you all there!

Also, Jimmy Fallon tickets are still available, you can buy them through you’re myneu and parents can buy them through the Office of Parent and Family Programs.

Events for Alcohol Week

Next week is Alcohol Week and there will be a lot of great events.  Tickets have already gone on sale for the 21+ Beer and Food Pairing which is sponsored by OPEN and Sigma Phi Epsilon.  The event is benefitting Fenway Health and will take place from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Curry Student Center Ballroom.  Tickets are on sale in my office, 104 Ell, right next to the Husky statue and they are $5.  You must present a government mandated ID to purchase tickets for entry.  You will be sampling food and beer and learning how to pair the two together.  It sounds like a lot of fun and something you won't want to miss!

Tickets are also still available for the Recycled Percussion show.  You can pick them up for free at the Blackman box office.  The event is on October 20th and starts at 9:00 pm.  Tickets are going fast so try and get yours early!

More Hockey Tickets!

Great news!  Once again I have a limited amount of men’s hockey tickets available for the opening game on Friday.  I’m giving them away first come first serve so stop by my office in 104 Ell Hall, right next to Blackman.  The Huskies are playing against the Bentley Falcons with doors opening at 5:30 and the game starting at 7:00 pm.  NU Athletics will be giving t-shirts to the first 1000 students that show up so you don’t want to miss this game!

 I also wanted to mention The Light the Night Walk, a great event that is happening October 15^th in the Boston Commons.   Last year our Northeastern Community lost a great person following a long, hard-fought battle with leukemia.  Eric Zagorda passed away in October 2008, he diagnosed himself with the disease in his sophomore year, and would have graduated in 2009. 

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. The Light the Night Walk raises money for a very important cause: finding better treatments and cures for blood cancers so patients can live better, longer lives

Northeastern's Got Talent!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great long weekend and are ready to get back into the swing of things!  Tomorrow, October 13^th, tickets go on sale for Recycled Percussion, presented by Sustainability at Northeastern.  Recycled Percussion recently placed third on America’s Got Talent and perform both original and cover songs using recycled objects such as ladders, pots, pans, and 50-gallon drums as musical instruments.  The concert is free for all Northeastern students and will take place in Blackman Auditorium on October 20^th from 9:00-10:00 pm.

This is a great band, don't forget to pick up your free tickets tomorrow in Blackman!
