Welcome Incoming Students!

Good morning!  I hope everyone's summer is going well.  For those of you going on co-op in a few days, good luck, and for those of you returning to classes, welcome back!

We've had a busy summer already, with our first Freshman Orientation this Monday.  With many students here for campus tours and orientation, take a minute to stop and talk with a few of our incoming Huskies and let them know a little about campus life.  I'm sure you all remember your first time on campus, so take a moment to welcome our newest additions to Northeastern.

Incoming Students: Don't be afraid to stop an upperclassman and ask questions about campus, Boston or student life.  We want you to feel as comfortable here as possible, and current students are the best source of information on Northeastern's campus life.

The LSCC is having a clothing drive from July 1 through July 31. Clothing can be dropped off at the Latino/a Student Cultural Center, 104 Forsyth St.  Keep this in mind when cleaning out your closets for summer.

I hope everyone has a safe, exciting summer.  See you all in September!

Off-Campus Apartment Search Just Got Easier!

Good Morning!

Home_submitIcon Looking for a sublet? Trying to sell your furniture?  Need a ride to work?  Off-campus housing has a new website just for the Northeastern community that I thought you all should know about.  It allows you to view and post for apartment listings, roommates, sublets, furniture, ride share and more.  Check it out and see for yourself: http://www.northeastern.edu/offcampus/apartment/. And it's FREE for all NU students, faculty and staff!

Also, in their recent clothing drive, the Catholic students collected over 300 bushels of clothing for those in need with the cooperation of recycling, ResLife, the Catholic Student Association and other Northeastern students.  You guys did an awesome job and I'm always happy to see so many groups working together.

The NU Baseball team is playing Delaware this weekend at Friedman Diamond Friday (today) at 2pm, Saturday at 12 noon, and Sunday at 1pm.  Go out and support your Husky athletes!

And DON'T FORGET: Sunday is Mother's Day!

Happy Friday! Enjoy the weekend.

Commencement!

Congratulations to all the graduates!

I am so proud of all of your accomplishments.  The ceremony was great, and this year's speaker was one of the best we've had in a long time.  Kenneth Cole's speech was very entertaining and relevant.  Here are a few pics from the big day, congrats again!

And what's this I hear about JoJo coming to Northeastern?  The Boston Globe, Huntington News and the singer's MySpace page are all reporting her as the newest Husky!

Senior Week!

Good morning.

This week is Senior Week, so get excited! Tonight is the Mohegan Sun trip, Graditude tomorrow (for those of you who made your Senior Gift), and the Boston Harbor Cruise on Wednesday. I hope all you seniors are taking advantage of the beautiful weather.  See you all Friday at Commencement!

I've been hearing a lot recently about a petition circulating campus in regards to the current economic situation and janitorial layoffs.  I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions.

Our contractor, Consolidated Services Corporation, employs more than 150 janitors at Northeastern.  Approximately 30 of these positions are "academic year appointments," which begin in September and conclude in May.  This is due to the decrease in demand for janitorial services during the summer, as many buildings are closed. Janitors who accept academic year appointments are aware of the September-to-May timeframe when they are hired.  Of the 30 janitors with academic year appointments, currently only 7 have not yet found summer work.  These workers will be notified by June 28 if summer work is available at Northeastern or elsewhere.  Regardless of their summer work opportunities, these individuals are welcome to return to Northeastern in September.

I just wanted to clear up the particulars because I know there was some confusion surrounding the petition.

End of the Semester...

Good Morning!

Tomorrow, Student Affairs will be hosting the annual Student Life Awards. These awards celebrate student involvement and will be held in the Ballroom of Curry Student Center. The reception will begin at 4:30pm, with the ceremony beginning at 5pm. Please join us in honoring the extraordinary efforts of our students, student organizations, and advisors. Hope to see you there!

Come by Fenway tonight to support NU's Baseball Team in the Baseball Beanpot Championship! The team will be facing UMass. The game begins at 5:05pm and you can purchase tickets at the gate for $5. Let's go Huskies!

As the last two days of spring semester are upon us, take a break on Wednesday to de-stress in the Sacred Space! At noon, join in the pre-finals yoga class. Mats will be provided, wear comfortable clothes. From 3pm-3:30, and from 3:30-4pm, come to the pre-finals guided meditation class. This will help you to increase focus and fight stress before your finals. Both of these classes are a first-come, first-serve basis.

Enjoy your last two days of classes!
